How to play Enclose Horse Unlimited
Enclose Horse is a short logic puzzle about building a pen for a horse. Each board is a grid of grass and water with one horse somewhere in the middle. You have a limited number of fences. Your goal is to keep the horse safe inside the biggest meadow you can make.
- Tap a grass tile to put a fence on it. Tap it again to take the fence back.
- The horse walks up, down, left and right, never diagonally. It cannot cross water or fences.
- If there is any path from the horse to the edge of the board, the horse escapes and the meadow scores nothing.
- The tiles the horse can reach light up as you build, and the meadow score updates live.
- When you are happy, press Submit. You get one submission per puzzle.
How scoring works
Every tile inside the horse’s meadow is worth one point, including the horse’s own tile. Items add to that: a carrot inside the meadow is worth 3 extra points, a star 10, and a cactus takes 5 away. Your result is shown as a percentage of the best possible score for that puzzle.
| Inside the meadow | Points |
|---|---|
| Each grass tile | +1 |
| Carrot | +1 for the tile, +3 bonus |
| Star | +1 for the tile, +10 bonus |
| Cactus | +1 for the tile, −5 penalty |
| Horse escapes | 0 for the whole puzzle |
Enclose Horse hints and strategy
These hints work on every enclose horse puzzle, daily or unlimited, without spoiling any single board.
Let the water do the work
Lakes and rivers are free walls. Look for places where water almost closes a loop and plug the gaps with fences. The best meadows usually lean on long stretches of water.
Fence narrow gaps first
A one-tile gap between two lakes costs one fence. A wide open side of the board can cost five or six. Find the cheapest chokepoints before you decide how big the meadow should be.
Think big, then trim
Start by imagining the largest pen the water allows, count the fences it needs, and only shrink it if you are over the limit. Most players build too small a meadow on their first try.
Chase the star, skip the cactus
A star is worth eleven tiles of grass, so it is often worth a fence or two to bring it inside. A cactus is the opposite: if one fence keeps it out, that fence pays for itself.
Check every edge before you submit
The meadow lights up in yellow when it is closed and turns red when the horse can escape. One diagonal gap is all it takes, so scan the whole boundary before you press Submit.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Leaving a corner open. Fences only block straight moves, but a single missing tile at a corner of the pen is still a straight path out. Trace the outline tile by tile.
Spending fences on the wrong side. If one side of the meadow already runs along water, every fence you put there is wasted. Move it to the open side instead.
Ignoring small pockets. A narrow strip of grass between two lakes can add four or five tiles for a single fence. Look for these before you settle on a shape.
Rushing the submit. You only get one submission per puzzle, and the live meadow score shows exactly what you will get. If it says the horse escapes, it will.
Optimal solutions for every puzzle
Each puzzle on this page is generated and then solved exactly before it goes live, so the best possible score is a proven maximum, not an estimate. After you submit, the dashed tiles show one fence plan that reaches it. There can be other plans with the same score.
That makes this a good place to practise: you always know how far you were from perfect, and you can study the optimal fences to learn the patterns that keep coming up, like sealing a bay with two fences or using a lake as the back wall of the pen.

Enclose Horse questions
Is Enclose Horse Unlimited free?
Yes. Every mode on PlayAnytime is free, with no account and nothing to download.
Is there an unlimited version of Enclose Horse?
Yes, this page. Solve the daily puzzle, then switch to Unlimited for a fresh set of three puzzles whenever you like, or try Endless mode.
How do you play Enclose Horse?
Tap grass tiles to place fences. The horse can walk up, down, left and right through grass, but not through water or fences. Trap it in the biggest meadow you can without letting it reach the edge, then submit.
What is the best possible score?
Every puzzle here has its best possible score computed exactly before it is published. After you submit, you see that score and one fence plan that reaches it.
What do the carrot, star and cactus do?
Tiles inside the meadow score one point each. A carrot inside adds 3 more, a star adds 10, and a cactus costs 5, so fence cacti out when you can.
Is this the official enclose.horse?
No. This is PlayAnytime’s own take on the idea, with our own puzzles, items and art. It is not affiliated with enclose.horse or its creator. You can play the original at enclose.horse.
